Summary
Kikyou is a shrine maiden who harbored deep affection for InuYasha throughout the series. Fifty years before the narrative begins, she was murdered by Naraku, who had disguised himself as InuYasha to drive the two lovers apart. She is later resurrected by the ogress Urasue, though her existence remains unnatural. Although she appears to be alive, her body is technically deceased, forcing her to consume the souls of the dead in order to maintain movement.
