Green Esmeraude
Summary
Green Esmeraude, referred to as Emerald in the English dub, is the second member of the Black Moon Clan to make her appearance. Described as selfish and vain, she cultivates a goddess-like persona through her choice of attire, which includes an elegant, form-fitting dress, opera-length gloves, and knee-high stiletto boots. Her presence is marked by an extremely loud and piercing laugh, making her the most comedic figure within the clan. In the anime, Esmeraude succeeds Rubeus, coldly choosing not to save his life from an exploding spaceship. She is entirely infatuated with Prince Demand, whose obsession lies with Sailor Moon. Driven by jealousy and greed, she approaches Wiseman with the intent to possess Demand and destroy Sailor Moon. Wiseman offers her a magical tiara, claiming it will grant her the title of queen of Neo-Tokyo. Suspecting a trap but accepting the gift, she is instantly transformed into a queen. Her power surges, and she becomes convinced that Demand will belong to her. However, she is soon overwhelmed by dark forces, transforming into an evil dragon. She attacks the Crystal Palace while the Sailor Senshi engage her, though they do not realize the monster is Esmeraude. Just as she attacks, Sailor Moon fires an attack that defeats the dragon. Esmeraude briefly reappears in her desired queen form, bathed in a heavenly glow, but a dark void opens beneath her. Unable to save herself, she slips into the vortex and vanishes into nothingness, reaching out her hand and whispering Demand’s name. In the manga, her obsession with Demand persists. After failing to eliminate the Sailor Senshi using her subordinates Chiral and Achiral, she targets Chibiusa in the 30th century. Removing her gloves reveals her monster-like hands, and she attempts to strangle Chibiusa before being briefly stopped by Sailor Venus. When Sailor Moon tries to use Moon Princess Halation on Esmeraude, the attack fails. Esmeraude then uses her multiple hands to strangle Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, and Tuxedo Mask. When King Endymion’s spirit appears behind Tuxedo Mask, empowering him to use Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber, he utilizes this new power to kill Esmeraude, freeing the other two Sailor Senshi.
