Synopsis
During a school excursion to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, junior high students Mii and Yuko encounter a neglected monument honoring Dr. Marcel Junod. Curious about his identity and deeds, they are suddenly enveloped by an eerie glow and transported over seventy years into the past. They arrive in Europe in 1935, where Dr. Junod, leaving his hospital post in Mulhouse, France, travels to Ethiopia as an ICRC delegate. Accompanying him on this journey through hardship, the young doctor witnesses the brutal realities of conflict, including poison gas attacks and assaults on Red Cross personnel. Despite the devastation, his resilient spirit drives him to aid those suffering from the war's aftermath. His humanitarian efforts later span from Ethiopia to Spain and across the battlefields of World War II, where he advocates for better treatment of prisoners of war, facilitates exchanges, creates channels for family correspondence, and ensures the delivery of aid. As he provides moral support to the vulnerable, Mii and Yuko gain new perspectives on their own lives and challenges.
