Synopsis
A worldwide network extends across the globe, and the information network's development has reached its peak. In this era, two distinct worlds exist: the real world and "wired," the virtual network realm. Soma Toru is a member of the hacking group Steppen Wolf, which roams the network world freely. As their final operation, they attack the UN forces' database. During the raid, Toru loses his friend and team leader Nonomura Yuya. Toru is then captured by the military. In exchange for his freedom, he is forced to work for an anti-hacker organization—the first squad of the UN Security Force Information Administration Bureau. While serving there, Toru searches for the one who killed his friend, even as the other members each have their own reasons for fighting. The three-way conflict among the terrorist group, the security enterprise, and the military rages on daily. The various incidents that occur during this struggle seem unrelated at first, but they gradually converge on a single event, as if drawn together by some unseen force.
