KiyaKiya
Synopsis
The origin of "KiyaKiya" lies in the old Japanese phrase "mune ga kiyakiya suru." I came across it in Shibusawa Tatsuhiko's book *Introductory Essays on Girls*, specifically within the chapter on "childhood experiences." This phrase conveys "an enigmatic, nostalgic, disturbing feeling" or a sense of "déjà vu," and it inspired my entire "KiyaKiya" series. Within the flow of our daily lives, there are moments when everything suddenly feels off; this unexpected shift, like a distortion in my memory, seems to possess its own kind of reality. That sensation forms the heart of "KiyaKiya" and the related paintings and drawings.
