Synopsis
Adapted from the novel of the same name by acclaimed author Li Xintian, the animated film Sparkling Red Star is a warm, patriotic children's story set in 1930s China. Director Lam Chiu Yin, known for Naked Ambition and Love on the Rocks, makes a notable shift from his earlier work to depict the grand adventures of a young comrade. Growing up amid turmoil, the carefree village boy Dongzi deeply admires his brave father, a Red Army soldier, and the Red Guards who have protected their village from the cruel landlord. When his father departs for the Long March, he gives Dongzi a shining red star. This star becomes Dongzi's guardian in the years that follow, as he faces numerous trials and gradually matures through the shifting currents of wartime China.
