Synopsis
Set in a future era where machines have gained self-sufficiency and become a source of significant political and social tension, Astro Boy (1980) details the experiences of Atom, a young robot who fights crime. Modeled after his mysterious creator's lost son, Atom overcomes harsh beginnings and is rescued and raised by the compassionate Dr. Ochanomizu. In his quest for justice, Atom gets caught in numerous confrontations with various groups, and regularly faces the grim realities of his world.
Background
The original Japanese version of the series ran for 52 episodes while the English version ran for a reduced 51 episodes, as the first two episodes were combined into one, resulting in the omission of the entire backstory of the main antagonist. This creates issues when the antagonist appears later in the series, and the anime refers back to the events which were cut.
