Synopsis
A cicada sits high in a tree, chirping loudly and sipping dew, unaware of a mantis lurking behind it. The mantis bends forward and lifts its front leg, ready to seize the cicada, but does not notice an oriole beside it. The bird stretches out its neck, prepared to peck at the mantis, yet the oriole itself is oblivious to a weasel creeping up on it. All three creatures covet the gain ahead, blind to the danger closing in from behind.
Background
This short film was produced by Shanghai Animation Film Studio using Chinese ink wash painting technique. It is based on the ancient Chinese fable "The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind".
