Synopsis
On August 6, 1945, a young boy named Shigeru left for work as a building excavator, carrying a lunchbox his mother had prepared. He never returned home. His mother eventually discovered his remains, and beside them lay a bento box that had been completely charred and blackened from the atomic bomb blast over Hiroshima. This anime brings to life the original book "Makkuro na Obentou (The Charred Lunchbox)" by author Kodama Tatsuharu, with illustrations by Kitajima Shinpei. The actual bento box at the heart of this story is preserved and displayed at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
