Synopsis
An adaptation of a children's novel originally published in 1973, written by Endo Hiroko. She was inspired to create the story based on a tale her father told her when she was young. The narrative follows a 13-year-old girl named Aki. While on a pilgrimage to Sensou-ji, a Buddhist temple in Asakusa, Tokyo, she discovers an error in the sangaku. Word of her sharp intellect spreads rapidly, eventually reaching Arima Yoriyuki, the lord of the Kurume Domain—who himself is renowned for discovering a rational approximation of pi. He hires Aki to serve as an arithmetic teacher for the region's princess, along with other instructors. In a math competition, Aki contends against other geniuses and prodigies, all striving to earn a wage so she can one day open a school for impoverished children and teach them arithmetic as well.
