In the not-too-distant future, Akira Mizutame is a gifted young scientist renowned for building Salt, a helper robot for daily chores. After a string of unsuccessful projects leaves him creatively stuck, he takes a friend's advice to enhance his own romantic life and sets out to create an artificial girlfriend, whom he names "No. 0." As No. 0 carries out her programmed duties, she begins to experience emotions of her own, leading to an inner conflict. Can true feelings ever grow between No. 0 and Akira—who struggles to connect with others—or will their bond stay purely artificial?
