In Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, middle school student Mirai Onozawa, frustrated with her everyday life, wishes for everything to be destroyed. That wish takes a dark turn when a massive magnitude 8.0 earthquake strikes.
During summer break, Mirai reluctantly goes with her younger brother Yuuki to an Odaiba exhibition featuring robots, which he is excited about. As they explore the venue, a catastrophic earthquake hits the Kanto region, leaving the siblings stranded in the chaos.
Among the ruins, they meet Mari Kusakabe, a single mother and motorcycle enthusiast, who offers to help them. Together, their goal is to make their way through the devastated city and reunite with their families.
