As winter approaches, Myne, now an apprentice priestess, must prepare for church life and the upcoming Dedication Ceremony. However, her vast knowledge and unusually high mana levels have attracted the dangerous attention of many individuals who wish to exploit her powers. To protect her, the Head Priest assigns a bodyguard for Myne and proposes that she be adopted by a noble family, which would force her to be separated from her family. Myne refuses this plan, causing the Head Priest to give her a firm ultimatum: she may remain with her family until she turns ten, but if she is considered a threat, harsh actions will be taken against her. Confronted with this difficult situation, Myne is unsure of what to do. No matter what happens, she is resolved to protect her loved ones, even if that means giving up her own dreams.

With support from her family, friends, and the enigmatic Head Priest whose motives remain unknown, Myne overcomes these obstacles to advance on her path toward becoming the ultimate librarian.

In "Ascendance of a Bookworm," Urano Motosu is a passionate reader who devours literature of every kind. Just before she can achieve her dream of becoming a librarian, her life is cut short by an accident. As she fades away, she wishes for a future filled with books. Her wish is granted when she is reborn as Myne, a frail five-year-old in a medieval world. Though she is thrilled by the prospect of reading, Myne is disheartened by the extreme rarity of books, which are handcrafted and expensive, making them accessible only to the nobility. Undeterred, Myne remains determined to find a way to read, and she resolves that if books are not available, she will create them herself.

In the series Kemono Jihen, Kohachi Inugami, a private detective who handles cases involving the supernatural, is summoned to a remote farming village by an innkeeper to investigate strange incidents where livestock are found either rotting or torn apart. When he arrives, Inugami notices an unusual boy working in the fields, a child the villagers avoid and call "Dorotabou" because of his strong smell. Surprised by the attention from an adult, Dorotabou is caught off guard. Intrigued, Inugami decides to involve Dorotabou in the investigation despite the villagers' objections. As they work together, Dorotabou discovers a hidden world where Kemono—beast-like beings—live alongside humans, a finding that gives his otherwise empty existence a new sense of purpose.
