This coming-of-age battle story focuses on the young years of the famed 17th-century Japanese warlord Date Masamune. The Date clan derived its name from the Date area of the former Mutsu province, which now corresponds to part of the modern city of Date. The anime serves as the first installment of the city's "Kirari na Wonder Project," an initiative aimed at showcasing local tourist attractions and the region's appeal. Production is handled by Gainax's newly established Fukushima studio, with completion scheduled for the end of March. The anime will be screened privately in April, shown at anime events, and made available online.

In 1939, following Germania's invasion of a neighboring nation, Europe became engulfed in a devastating war. Amid this chaos, the small alpine country of Elystadt found itself as Germania's next target. Given Germania's overwhelming military might and prior victories, an easy takeover of Elystadt seemed inevitable. Elystadt's situation worsened when Germanian forces captured Princess Ortfiné "Finé" Fredericka von Eylstadt during her journey to a crucial meeting with Britannia. However, when a Germanian transport operation went wrong, Izetta, the last remaining witch, managed to escape. Remembering Princess Finé from her past, Izetta used her magic to free the princess from Germanian custody. Reunited, Izetta vows to protect Elystadt from Germania. With the last witch on their side, Elystadt holds onto hope of resisting the imperialist forces.
