In the Ming dynasty, legend speaks of an ancient divine book containing a vast array of technical knowledge, including a unique method for crafting weapons of the gods with the power to annihilate everything. Whoever obtains this book will rule the entire nation. According to tradition, in ancient times, the deity entrusted the book to the royal family as a sign of acknowledging their sovereignty.
However, during the Yuan dynasty, the Mongols invaded the central plains and took control of the country. Chaos erupted everywhere, and the book—meant to be enshrined in the Imperial Palace—somehow vanished, only to reappear among outlaw societies, attracting numerous factions to fight over it.
When the Han people reclaimed rule under the Ming dynasty, the divine book was recovered and once again enshrined in the Imperial Palace. But by then, those outlaw groups already knew the book was far more than a mere legend—it truly existed! So they conspired to steal it. Among the underworld’s most notorious thieves are the Hell-fire Monk, Hua Daochang the Thousand-Face Fox, and Duan Yun in White.
One day, on the Ghost Festival, they infiltrate the Imperial Palace, each attempting to steal the most precious treasure and vie for the title of "the greatest robber." In the end, the Hell-fire Monk manages to make off with the divine book.
The emperor establishes the Imperial Guards to serve as his personal bodyguards, secret police, and spies. Among them is a young and inexperienced guard—Yuan Xiaotang, the hero of this animation. The emperor orders the Imperial Guards to capture the three thieves and recover the book. And so the story begins!
