Maya, a newborn honeybee, is filled with curiosity about the world around her. From the moment she is born, she is raised to be a worker bee, but her individuality and strong desire for independence make it hard for her to comprehend and obey the hive's strict regulations.
After gathering all the honey near the honeycomb, Maya decides to embark on an adventure to locate a flower garden so she can collect more honey for the hive. Her motives are good, but because she departs without permission, the Queen sends Maya's friend Willy to search for the little troublemaker. Willy joins Maya on her journey, and together, beyond their familiar hive, the two friends are amazed by the sheer beauty nature offers.
Through many experiences—some delightful, others terrible or sad—and meetings with various insects, Maya grows into a strong and wise honeybee.
