In the age of exploration, European travelers returning from far-off lands brought back strange specimens never before seen in Europe. These items were displayed in private collections known as Wunder Kammer, or Chambers of Wonder. Over time, efforts grew to combine these collections and make them available to the public, which eventually led to the founding of the British Museum. In the 19th century, research into these artifacts began, revealing their secrets through scientific investigation. Queen Charlotte of England chose three distinguished researchers, granted them knighthood, and gave them rings called C.M.B., named after Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar—the three wise men who followed the star to the newborn Christ. The C.M.B. rings provide their holders with unlimited funding for research, plenty of time, and unrestricted access to global research materials. Traditionally, each of the Three Wise Men passes their ring to their most gifted student. Currently, all three rings are held by Sakaki Shinra, the adopted son of the former Three Wise Men. He eagerly looks forward to uncovering the hidden wonders within the Wunder Kammer, but to delve deeper, one must pay the price.
