This autobiographical tale of the author’s formative years growing up in an idyllic Yunnan country town (her parents met there after being ‘sent down’ during the Cultural Revolution) is full of the same verve, playful drawings and favorite pot-bellied pig found in her Mata volumes. Family and scenic photos are mixed in with Zhu’s colorful artwork, making for an indelible portrait of innocence and of a time gone by.
