In the distant future, two exceptional young military commanders ascend above their contemporaries. On opposite sides of the galaxy, the two men hold wildly different visions: Reinhard dreams of uniting humanity under his iron rule, while Yang seeks only to forge a path toward enduring peace. As the war intensifies, Reinhard and Yang each pursue their ideals, securing their places among the stars as the vanguards of a new age of galactic heroes.

Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu won the Seiun Award for Best Novel of the Year in 1988. The series was published in English as Legend of the Galactic Heroes by VIZ Media under the Haikasoru imprint from March 8, 2016, to November 19, 2019.
