The story takes place in present-day downtown Tokyo. The protagonist, Handa Sen—nicknamed “Osen”—works as the top hostess at the long-established restaurant Isho-an, a beloved fixture in the Kasagi-no-yado district. Osen enjoys sake and looks stunning in kimono, but she is also a versatile talent: a master chef, entertainer, potter, and art expert. The manga follows how Osen resolves the various incidents that arise around Isho-an, sometimes through the Japanese spirit of “wa” and other times through straightforward logic. The artist’s delicate portrayal of Osen in kimono, along with detailed depictions of crafts like pottery and food, is a standout feature of the series.
