Yoake no Uta

Each night, Elva ventures into the dark sea wielding a sword to repel the creatures that rise from its depths. As a "kannagi"—a divine warrior chosen by the gods to safeguard the island—Elva is marked by snow-white hair, perpetual youth, and blackened limbs, signs of the curse that slowly drains the life from every kannagi. The island's inhabitants shun and fear Elva, until they meet a boy named Alto. Captivated by Elva's power and solitary existence, Alto vows to help Elva and defy the fate that haunts them. Eight years later, Alto has grown into a brave and capable young man, unwavering in his loyalty to his kannagi. Elva had accepted an early death, but Alto's presence seems to be gradually reversing the curse inflicted by the black sea.
