In middle school, Misora Hoshino enjoyed daydreaming about her favorite anime characters and reading boys' love stories with her friends. When she noticed a shift in the behavior of her aggressive classmate Ryuunosuke Tatsumi, brought on by his new stepsibling, this—along with the brothers' striking, contrasting appearances—motivated her to write a novel about them. However, the novel's contents were revealed to her classmates, and soon after, Ryuunosuke transferred away. The incident has haunted Misora's conscience ever since. By chance, Ryuunosuke—now using the surname Ichinose—transfers into Misora's high school. Not only are they in the same class again, but they also live next door to each other. She seizes the chance to apologize, yet surprisingly, he does not seem upset. Ryuunosuke loves his brother even more than he did back then, but he insists his feelings are purely platonic. If he has romantic interest in anyone, it is her. Just as Misora is ready to brush off her regrets, she is formally introduced to the elder Ichinose for the first time. Instead of being polite, Subaru acts like a jealous lover scolding a rival.
