The referee's whistle sounds. The ball goes into the air. A receive, a set, a spike. Volleyball—a sport where two teams compete against each other, separated by a tall, barrier-like net. At just 170 centimeters tall, the "Little Giant" manages to surpass the lofty net and the wall of blockers. Awestruck, Shouyou Hinata watches the ace's crow-like silhouette. Driven to rise as high as the Little Giant, the short-statured Hinata finally succeeds in assembling a squad during his final year of middle school and enters his first volleyball competition. However, his team suffers a crushing defeat in their very first match against the powerhouse Kitagawa Daiichi, led by the gifted yet overbearing setter known as the "King of the Court," Tobio Kageyama. Hinata joins Karasuno High School with the goal of exacting revenge on Kageyama in an official high school match and following the Little Giant's path—but his plans are shattered when he opens the gym door and discovers Kageyama is now his teammate. From there, Hinata must carve out his place on the team and cooperate with the troublesome Kageyama in order to overcome his own weaknesses and realize his ambition of reaching the summit of high school volleyball. Background
Haikyuu!! won the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category in 2015. The series was published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from July 5, 2016, to August 3, 2021. The publisher later released the manga in 3-in-1 omnibus volumes. It has also been published in Polish by Studio JG since May 6, 2022.
