Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story
るろうに剣心 -明治剣客浪漫譚-
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan
A decade has passed since the Bakumatsu, a war-torn period when citizens rose against the Tokugawa shogunate. The revolutionaries sought to build a peaceful, prosperous nation free from oppression. The Meiji era has begun, but true peace remains elusive. Though swords are outlawed, murders still occur in the streets. Orphans of war veterans have no place to go, while the government appears content to enrich itself. The wandering samurai Kenshin Himura continues striving to ensure the ideals he fought for are worth the lives sacrificed to bring about this new age. Once called Hitokiri Battousai, he was dreaded as the most merciless killer among the revolutionaries. Now burdened by remorse, Kenshin has vowed never to take another life as penance for his past, and he may never find peace until killing is utterly eradicated. In the 11th year of Meiji, Kenshin encounters Kaoru Kamiya, the owner and head instructor of a small dojo threatened with closure. The police are powerless to stop the series of murders committed in her dojo's name by a man claiming to be the legendary Battousai. Kenshin puts his wandering on hold to join Kaoru in clearing both their reputations. But how long can he remain before his past catches up with him? Included one-shot: Volume 28: Meteor Strike
