Seventeen-year-old Nowaki Asunaro has endured a relentless series of misfortunes since birth, from buckets of water falling on his head to being wrongfully blamed for crimes. Despite his unending bad luck, he holds onto hope of becoming friends with his admired classmate, Hashihime Banri. Yet, his constant mishaps keep thwarting any chance he has to get closer to her. After yet another round of calamities, Nowaki seeks shelter from the rain in a crumbling, neglected shrine. Hungry and cold, he earnestly begs the gods to let him survive and finally befriend Banri. To his astonishment, his prayer appears to actually summon a deity. Could this unforeseen event be the turning point that brings Nowaki the good fortune he has always longed for?
