Mephisto Bart Kucabara is a devil lawyer. Exiled from the demon world, he must collect enough Dark Matter to return. To achieve this, he hatches a scheme to claim Dark Matter from the souls of sinners bound for hell: if he proves a soul's innocence, that soul's Dark Matter becomes his. Yet his kindhearted nature repeatedly forces him to use up Dark Matter defending the soul from the Shinigami that arrives to take it to hell, making it difficult to gather enough.
