Gu Huo Zai is a manhua that revolves around Triad. The story describes the life of the protagonist, Chan Ho-Nam, who works his way to the top of the gang.

Background

Because of the manhua's success, the series was rewritten into a series of well known gang themed movies. This series revealed the face of the Triad to the audience, and the actors who participated in the movies rised into fame as well. In 2012, the protagonist of the series, Chan Ho-Nam was selected as one of the 24 classic manhua characters to be featured in the Hong Kong Avenue of Comic Stars. In the same year, the number of chapters surpassed the manga "Bruce Lee" (1560 chapters), to become the longest running manhua series in Hong Kong.
