This "mysterious school comedy" follows the eccentric members of a high school literature club. The club president, Touko Amano, calls herself the "literary girl" but is actually a youkai that feeds on stories by ripping out and devouring pages from books. Konoha Inoue, a second-year student and her junior, writes daily stories specifically for Amano to consume. Inoue previously authored a prize-winning novel, publishing it under the pseudonym Miu Inoue, which led readers to believe the writer was a mysterious 14-year-old bishoujo novelist. The resulting pressure from the novel's popularity, including planned film and TV adaptations, drove Inoue to retreat into seclusion.
