During the winter of 1927–28, U.S. government forces stormed the isolated seaside settlement of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, burning its docks and leveling the town with explosives, while its residents were rounded up and sent to holding camps. But this raid was only one piece of a much more dreadful story uncovered by a young antiquarian who came to Innsmouth to delve into the community's forgotten past. They soon discovered that those old rumors were still very much real—and that dark secrets lurked in waters far deeper and more grim than any grave.
