Sobakkasu!

そばっかす!

Hinomoto Hajime is nicknamed Sobakkasu due to her freckles and because she is the daughter of a soba chef. She is seen as an ugly duckling next to her beautiful sister. For the past ten years, she has trained under her father to master soba-making and eventually take over the family restaurant. However, at the start of high school, a series of harsh events brings her to a very low point in life. She is saved by Shigeyoshi Minako, whom Hajime instantly admires for her stunning appearance and strong personality. Hajime discovers that Shigeyoshi is the captain of her high school's judo team and one of the strongest in the country. Hajime persuades her best friend Toshiko to join the team with her, and together with the other first-years, they begin the team's brutal training regimen. It becomes clear that Hajime has no athletic talent and constantly lags behind. Yet her determination and ten years of pounding and kneading soba give her a unique advantage that no one, not even the talented Shigeyoshi, can match.
