A Bi Jian

These books recount the story of He Wu-sheng, who carries the weight of being an illegitimate son. He witnesses the death of his biological father, Yu Jing, at the hands of Shi Fei-hong through the use of the A Bi (or Avici) sword technique. Seeking vengeance for his father's death, He Wu-sheng himself trains in this same method of swordsmanship but endures daily suffering as the flow of his qi and blood reverses. Later, he observes the ninth emissary of the Avici Hell being reborn in flames. As he encounters manifestations of greed, ignorance, foolish attachment, and anger within the martial world, he reaches the deep realization that the Avici Hell—the last and deepest of the eight hot hells—may in fact be the human realm.
