In a fantasy setting inspired by ancient China, the story follows Fuuren, an armless Defender. Defenders are individuals who will see their missions or assignments through to completion no matter what—if they decide to accept them. Fuuren has been summoned to a small town on the verge of being overtaken by the Ka empire, and the townspeople wish to hire him to aid their armies in defending their settlement. Yet there is some internal intrigue within the town itself, and Fuuren takes on an entirely different objective instead.
