During a trip to the National Library, junior-high-school students Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo are drawn into the pages of an ancient Chinese book titled "The Universe of The Four Gods." Miaka is chosen as the priestess of Suzaku and must locate all her celestial warriors in order to summon the god and obtain three wishes. However, the enemy nation serving the god Seiryuu manipulates Yui into becoming Seiryuu's priestess. Now adversaries, the former best friends begin their prolonged conflict to summon their respective gods and fulfill their wishes.
