Mutant Hanako

ミュータント花子

Set during the American invasion of Okinawa, "Mutant Hanako" follows a young girl named Hanako from the region. While seeking shelter with her sister Tsukiko, Hanako receives a vision from the Emperor. He orders her to ally with Junichi in fighting the Americans, who are thought to come from the Demon Kingdom.

Background

An excerpt of Mutant Hanako was published in English by VIZ Media in their underground manga anthology Secret Comics Japan on July 6, 2000. According to Secret Comics Japan, Makoto Aida first released the 60 page Mutant Hanako at one of his art exhibits, where only 300 copies were printed and available only to those who attended. It was later reprinted by ABC Shuppan in August 1999.
