In a highly advanced city of the near future where humanoid robot technology is extremely sophisticated, boy detective Kenichi becomes embroiled in a conflict when powerful politician Duke Red, devastated by the death of his own child, hires a scientist to create a replacement: an exquisitely beautiful, sex-changing robot child named Mitchy. Note that this original 1949 manga provides only part of the storyline for the recent Metropolis film, and does not include Rock, whose role in the movie was adapted from Phoenix, Nextworld, and other Tezuka manga.

Background

Metropolis was published in English by Dark Horse Comics on April 22, 2003. It was also released in French by Taifu Comics in 2005; in Spanish by Ediciones Glénat on May 31, 2004; and in Brazilian Portuguese by NewPOP Editora in August 2010.
