Ookami no Kuchi: Wolfsmund

Set in early 14th-century Europe (Switzerland), Wolfsmund is a dark historical manga centered on the fortress of the same name in the St. Gotthard Pass. This stronghold is under the control of a sadistic tyrant. Each chapter follows characters who must traverse the pass, only to be interrogated by the tyrant. What distinguishes this series is that the protagonists seldom find a happy outcome. The author does not hold back in depicting the harsh and inhumane realities of the Middle Ages.
