Following the unexpected death of her parents, Shiori Kanzaki uncovers a photograph featuring a man she suspects to be her grandfather. Driven by this discovery, she embarks on a journey to Azakawa Village, his supposed place of origin, with hopes of meeting him. Upon reaching the quaint village, she stumbles upon a museum that holds memories of her own childhood. In the museum, she encounters Sakuma, a mischievous middle school girl, and Suga, the peculiar museum curator who communicates exclusively via written notes. Despite initial reluctance, Suga permits Shiori to stay at the museum temporarily to delve into her family history. However, a chilling local legend looms over the village: "Kotori Obake," a spirit known for kidnapping children who venture into the nearby woods. As Shiori investigates, she begins to wonder how this tale intertwines with her personal history, especially given the mysterious voices she hears, urging her to "fulfill the promise."
