On Doorstep

After filching a wallet on a train, pickpocket Jimmy assumes he has escaped unnoticed. But one look from Reese Heyman tells him he was spotted. Rather than turn him in, Reese only forces Jimmy to help out at the bookstore for a day. Furious and embarrassed by this light punishment, Jimmy plots revenge by breaking into Reese's apartment. There he learns Reese is an ex-police officer. Frightened of the consequences, he abandons the burglary and goes back to his usual life. Still anxious about possible payback for the attempted theft, Jimmy overhears some cops talking about Reese's retirement. Fascinated by the retired officer's complicated history, Jimmy fakes a reformed attitude and asks Reese if he can keep working part-time at the bookstore. As they go about their jobs, Jimmy grows increasingly fond of his coworker—and as those feelings turn into love, their bond slowly deepens. Included one-shot: Lucky Bill
