After her mother becomes paralyzed, Yuzu Horiuchi's life changes drastically when she transfers from an elite all-girls high school to a co-ed school. Struggling to adapt to her new routine with support from friendly classmates, Yuzu encounters the quiet Soutarou Kashio at a puppy adoption event. Both instantly fall for the same Shiba Inu puppy, simply named "Shiba." The problem is, neither claims they can take it home. When the puppy goes up for adoption, Yuzu enters a bidding war and loses—only to discover that Soutarou is Shiba's new owner. Unwilling to give up the pup, Yuzu suggests a deal: she covers half of Shiba's costs in exchange for shared custody. As they raise Shiba together, Yuzu and Soutarou grow closer as pet owners, friends, and possibly more.
