Following his mother's death, Miwatari Yuu returns from Tokyo to reside with relatives in Ousuku, his birthplace. Yuu is the newest member of a Shinto priestly lineage that has endured for many generations. Shortly after arriving, he encounters a mysterious girl who appears to be seeking the Northern Lights. Yuu had glimpsed the Aurora as a child, although no one believed him, and his mother had described it as the armor of the Valkyries painted across the sky. Yuu's fate is entwined with that of this strange girl and the aurora, and he inevitably finds himself pulled into a struggle involving both gods and humans.
