Timid, awkward, and physically frail, Tsukushi Tsukamoto is an easy victim for bullies. Despite enduring their harassment, this leads him to a chance meeting with Jin Kazama, a fellow student at Seiseki High School who is a naturally gifted soccer player the same age. After rescuing Tsukamoto from the bullies, Kazama asks him to join a futsal game because his team is short a player. Though he can barely keep pace with the more skilled participants, Tsukamoto shows tremendous passion and determination; even a hurt foot fails to stop him from charging across the court. His tireless running and sheer persistence inspire the whole team—especially the apathetic Kazama. When Tsukamoto nets the winning goal, he discovers a genuine love for soccer and for playing alongside Kazama. Motivated by Kazama, Tsukamoto resolves to join him in the school's soccer club. What he does not realize is that the Seiseki team is famous across the nation, and a player as poor as he is might not even survive the tryouts, let alone earn a spot on the first squad.
