The story follows Hanayo, an elderly woman whose husband of many years recently passed away. After attending a Buddhist service for him, she finds herself wandering through town alone for the first time in ages. She happens upon a cosmetics shop and meets a beautiful woman named Yoshiko Doujima, instantly falling in love at first sight. Hanayo had long stopped using makeup due to her husband's complaints, but applying some with Yoshiko's assistance lifts her spirits.
