Twenty-nine-year-old spinster Laura Pendleton has built a reputation as a skilled matchmaker within London society. When tasked with finding a wife for the eligible bachelor lan Dalton, she anticipates a simple assignment—until she encounters the handsome but direct and distant Mr. Dalton face-to-face. Despite Miss Pendleton presenting him with several lovely young women, the cynical Mr. Dalton seems interested only in his matchmaker. However, Miss Pendleton has no desire for marriage, particularly not to such a wealthy nobleman, due to a disgraceful secret from her past.
