Randy "Ryo" Maclean, who is half-Japanese, joins the NYPD's 27th precinct as a new detective. His superior assigns him to partner with Dee Laytner, an attractive veteran detective known for acting on impulse. To Ryo's confusion, Dee quickly shows a strong interest in his new partner. On their first case together, Ryo and Dee must look after Bikky, a young boy whose father was killed for being mixed up in a drug trafficking scheme. Bikky insists he has no knowledge of his father's involvement before the murder. Nevertheless, Ryo and Dee must protect the boy from those who want him dead and safeguard any evidence he may be hiding. As more time passes and the detective duo works increasingly together, the distance between them slowly diminishes. But could Ryo ever respond to Dee's feelings?
