In 1989, Kevin Flynn, an innovative software engineer and the CEO of ENCOM International, vanishes. Two decades later, his son Sam, now the company's controlling shareholder, shows little interest in ENCOM aside from an annual prank on the board of directors. Sam is contacted by Alan Bradley, an ENCOM executive and his father's friend, urging him to look into a mysterious page coming from Flynn's abandoned arcade. There, Sam discovers a hidden computer lab and inadvertently transports himself to the Grid, a virtual reality crafted by his father.
