A mysterious light envelops Earth, turning all of humanity into stone statues. Millennia later, the world is overrun with plant life, forests covering the ruins of once-great cities. One of the earliest to break free from his stone prison is Taiju Ooki, who discovers that his friend Senkuu, a prodigiously gifted young scientist, has been planning for his awakening. While Taiju longs to rescue the girl he loves, Senkuu is determined to uncover the cause of the strange event and rebuild civilization to its former state. However, when they release the notoriously formidable Tsukasa Shishiou to gain an edge against the perils of this new world, they soon realize their new ally has his own agenda. Tsukasa views their situation as an opportunity for a fresh beginning—one free from the decay and ruin brought by technology—and he will stop at nothing to realize his vision. Unable to reconcile their opposing views, Senkuu’s unwavering faith in science collides with Tsukasa’s raw, instinctual force in what becomes an epic showdown.

Background
Dr. Stone won the 64th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category in 2019. The manga ranked 17th in the 2020 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of the manga were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup, and it was also simulpub through MANGA Plus. The volumes were published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from September 4, 2018, to June 3, 2025. It has also been released in Brazilian Portuguese by Panini Comics since September 2018.
