In early 16th-century Italy, the flourishing city of Florence thrives amid the dazzling emergence of the Renaissance. Men open their art workshops, display their masterpieces, and take on budding artists as apprentices. Women, on the other hand, are expected to devote themselves to their husbands and children. Arte, a noble-born girl, harbors a deep love for painting. After her supportive father passes away, her mother resolves to shape Arte into a proper, virtuous lady, especially given their modest dowry. Yet Arte is bold and adventurous, determined to break free from gender roles and become a true artist. She tirelessly searches for an artisan willing to take her in, but every door is shut to a foolish woman. However, one small workshop owner, Leo, gives her an opportunity. When Arte proves her dedication and passion for art, Leo decides to accept her as his sole apprentice. For the first time truly free, Arte sets out to forge her place in the male-dominated art world.

Background

The first 17 chapters of Arte were published in English on the Silent Manga Audition website from August 25, 2015, to December 25, 2016, before release was halted. The series has been published digitally in English through Comikey since November 6, 2021. The first three volumes of the series were published digitally by Media Do International/Coamix from October 2, 2018, to October 12, 2018.
