In a Japanese city, one heart stands out faintly above the rest—a seemingly odd and naive brunette named Kobato Hanato. Though she appears to wander about, this pure-hearted girl yearns to fulfill a single precious wish: to reach a certain place. For that wish to be granted, she must learn to heal the wounded hearts of people and collect them in a magic bottle. However, the world can be bewildering for such an innocent girl. Her companion Ioryogi, a talking blue dog plushie, can be quite rough when teaching her common sense. Luckily for Kobato, a particular quaint place with a troubled history seems to be—and may be seeking—a glimmer of hope.

After announcing an exclusive deal with CLAMP in April 2007, Newtype USA published the manga in English starting from its June 2007 issue with plans of serializing 12 installments in total. But with the publication being shut down in February 2008, only nine installments were released. The manga was published in English by Yen Press from May 18, 2010, to June 26, 2012. It was also released in French by Pika Édition from August 19, 2009, to April 4, 2012; in Spanish by Norma Editorial from October 2009 to April 2012; and in Brazilian Portuguese by Editora JBC from November 2011 to July 2012.
