In Universal Century 0088, as the fight between the AEUG and the Titans nears its end, a faction of elite Federation officers stationed at the asteroid fortress Pezun rebels against their pro-AEUG superiors. This group, under the command of Brave Cod, calls itself the "New Desides"—a blend of "decision" and "dissident"—to demonstrate their dedication to the Titans' belief in Earthnoid supremacy. After a clash involving the Federation's Barzams and the New Desides' Xeku Eins, the rebels seize control of the asteroid. Though the Axis remains the primary concern, the Federation decides it must suppress this uprising. To put down the rebellion, the Federation deploys Task Force Alpha, a unit made up of veterans from the Federal Forces, AEUG, and Karaba. Equipped with advanced mobile suit technology, including multiple Gundams, Task Force Alpha seeks to stop the insurgency from spreading. Among these Gundams, the MSA-0011 S Gundam stands out, piloted by the 22-year-old Ryou Roots. Task Force Alpha's fleet includes the Argama-class assault carrier Pegasus III and four Salamis-class cruisers. The S Gundam features an AI system called ALICE (Advanced Logistic & Inconsequence Cognizing Equipment), which constantly acts to protect Ryou and gradually develops its own sense of self-awareness.
