Since childhood, Kei Yonagi has been captivated by acting, paying close attention to how different characters express a range of actions and emotions. As a teenager, she supports her younger siblings on her own and faces financial hardships while auditioning for roles with little success. Kei's fortunes shift when acclaimed director Sumiji Kuroyama witnesses her performance and is impressed by her ability to fully inhabit a character through method acting. Though she possesses natural talent, relying on this method could be harmful to her well-being. To help her grow, he offers her a chance to refine her skills, but the path ahead is filled with obstacles Kei must overcome to achieve success.

Background

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Act-age were published in English in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. The series was discontinued after the arrest of storywriter Tatsuya Matsuki on August 8, 2020.
